Seen by the ancient Romans as the fountain of youth, a sparking white wine called Prosecco has an illustrious history as the main ingredient of aparitifs. In the late 1800's, Austrian soldiers diluted their Prosecco with a spritz (German for "splash") of water, making the drink lighter and easier to drink. In 1948, Prosecco was introduced at Harry's Bar in Venice as a key ingredient in the Bellini (fresh white peaches pushed through a sieve and topped with Prosecco).
The popular Italian dessert Tiramisu was developed by a "maitresse" of a house of pleasure in the centre of Treviso in 1800. She offered this as an aphrodisiac to her clients to solve any problems they may have once they return home to their wives...
Drink in the history and atmosphere, and enjoy the tastes of the Veneto region!
