The Korean Wave (Hallyu) has become a global phenomenon, with Korean dramas/movies. K-Pop and Kimchi becoming a part of many people's lives around the world. Through tours and discussions with local historians and experts, explore the origins of Korean customs and way of life.
Lunches are included as a part of our day programme. Bibimbup, Bulgogi and Kimchi will of course be on the menu but so will temple food and wild sesame sujebi (soup with handtorn pasta) . Various dietary requirements can be met.
An Accommodation Plan is offered as an optional add-on. Room in an Hanok (traditional) house shared with other student travellers. Wifi available. Breakfast included.

Make Gyeongju, known as a "museum without walls" and the capital of Shilla until 935 AD, a part of your trip. With the unification of the Korean peninsula in 668 AD, Gyeongju's position on the Silk Road made it a hub of commerce and religion, namely buddhism. Explore how the interactions with the Arab world, China and Japan influenced life in Gyeongju during this period.
The meals and accommodation (single or double occupancy) in a western-style hotel are included in the programme fee. This area is famous for Tteokgalbi (minced spareribs) and Hwangnamppang (Korean moon cake). We are able to take into account various dietary requirements.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea from Northern Kyushu in 1592, hoping to use Korea as a stepping stone to take over Ming China. Faced with formidable Korean sea power, which cut off his supply routes, and resistance by the joint Ming Chinese and Korean forces, he retreated in 1598. As he retreated, he took with him Korean artisans skilled in the production of porcelain as his prisoners.
The Korean porcelain artisans abducted by Hideyoshi built new lives in the deep valleys of Northern Kyushu and injected new life into the ceramic production in Japan. Discover the stories behind the production and export of Japanese porcelain to Europe in the 17th century. Enjoy the muted colours of Japanese earthenware and the brilliance of Arita and Imari porcelain that showcase the seasonal cuisine of this region.
The meals and accommodation are included in the programme fee. This area is famous for Mentaiko (pollock roe), Saga beef and Yobuko squid. Various dietary requirements can be met. Varied accommodations including a Japanese ryokan or inn.

From 1639 to 1853, Japan followed a policy of "sakoku", which literally translates to "a country in chains", and shut itself off from the rest of the world. During this period, it maintained limited trading relationships with only China and the Dutch traders living on an island in Nagasaki harbour.
Japan was eventually forced to emerge from its isolation through the efforts of a group of young men from Yamaguchi prefecture. Through local historians and experts, explore this period in Japanese history.
The meals and accommodation are included in the programme fee. This area is famous for puffer fish. Various dietary requirements can be met. Stay in a Japanese ryokan or inn.

With numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, sublime cuisine and renowned artisans, Kyoto is on many people Bucket List. Dive into what makes this city so iconic through tours and discussions with local historians and experts.
The meals and accommodation are included in the programme fee. The area around Kyoto is famous for kaiseki ryori, Kobe beef and okonomiyaki. Various dietary requirements can be met. Accommodation is in Osaka in a western-style hotel near the train station and numerous restaurants.
